OBJECTIVES o Web Based Engines for Expert System of Ecology and Environment : Prediction and prevention of the natural and environmental disaster : Integrated management of ecology, watershed, and environment : Construction of the integrated information management system for basic design of ecological conservation plan by using web based DB, GIS, Models, and Monitoring System : Sustainable development of the area through the ecotourism maintaining maximization of the efficiency of conservation project o Analysis of the International and Local Data for Ecology Conservation : Construction of the related knowledge such as internet data of problems, status of environmental quality, regulation, policy, and international web site etc.

  3. o Construction of Expert System on Mobile Web Server : Combinatory management technology of ET, and IT : Integrated management of ecology, environment, tourism, and industry : Web based information management and system control (Web Based DB, GIS, Modeling, Monitoring and Control System) : Offering expert system to the users without limit of time and space o Verification and Commercialization of Final Product : Use the final product for the decision and planning tool for the central and local government in Korea : Use the final product as the mean for the advertisement tool of the importance of the conservation of East River Ecology System : Comparison with international products : Construction of international research institute for the web based expert system of ecology and environment including the nation such as Korea, Russia, America, Japan, and China.

  9. III. Web Based Data Base of East River (Dong Gang) 1. Local Internet and On-Site DB Survey System o All the Internet data such as problems, status of environmental quality, regulation, policy, and international web site etc. o Sampled, measured, and analyzed data of civil, social, environmental, and ecological fields on Web GIS (http:\\env1.kangwon.ac.kr\eastriver) o Open public system : anyone can access this system and participate the management of East River. 1.1 Policy DB for Ecological Conservation Project of East River 1.2 Pollution Problems of East River after Decision of Youngwol Dam o Natural and environmental disaster due to heavy storm water o Pollution and deterioration of ecology coming from tourism o Uncontrolled and unplanned development by central and local government o Problems of rafting o Problems of construction of golf course o Decrease of tourist due to the pollution of East River

  10. 1.3 Destruction of East River Ecology System due to Flooding o Destruction of East River from the unplanned and careless recovery project of the Local government o Problems and conflicts of the recovery project of the adjacent roads 1.4 Destruction of East River from the Polluted Water Discharged from Do Am Dam o Flooding problem in the case of heavy storm water o Deteriorated water quality compared with wastewater o Biggest problems for the water quality of East River o Dam has to be break down after the treatment of already polluted water 2. Web DB for International Web Site o The research or project for ecological conservation is so vast including the natural science, engineering, and policy. o Various web sites has been surveyed and constructed in the expert system to include the overall spectrum of the management criteria.
