What do you see? What does your neighbor notice? Do you see the same things?
Paradigm: • Definition: also a perception; the way you see something, your point of view, frame of reference, or belief. Our paradigms are often off the mark, and as a result, they create limitations. Paradigms are like glasses. When you have incomplete paradigms about yourself or life in general, it’s like wearing the wrong prescription. • Consider: Are your paradigms of yourself helping or hindering you? • Paradigms of others: Seeing things from a different point of view can help us understand why other people act the way they do.
Think deeply about your own daily life; which of these paradigms seems best to fit you? • Friend-Centered • Stuff-Centered • Boyfriend/Girlfriend-Centered • School-Centered • Parent-Centered • Sports-Centered • Hero-Centered • Enemy-Centered • Self-Centered • Write privately about this for five-seven minutes • Then, look through pp. 19-23 to clarify why and how you define yourself. Is that a positive aspect of your life and your perception?
We want to be PRINCIPLE CENTERED • Brainstorm: what do you think this means? How does change and influence our approaches to life, others, school, LINK? • We want to talk about being principle-centered next week. • For HW: Please read pp. 24-45 for next week. Come to class with a few (5-7) sticky noted places that are areas of interest, “ah ha’s,” concerns: “is this really feasible?” or connections: “this is how I see this benefiting me” or “this would be useful for us as leaders to demonstrate, show our freshmen.”
Reviewing 7 Habits: Personal Bank Account • Review 7 Habits pages 24-45 • What ideas, statements, claims were made that resonated with you and why? • How do you see these ideas applying to yourself as an individual, student, child, leader? • Segue to pp. 34-35: Personal Bank Account • Discuss the deposit and withdrawal system. Today’s about us giving you opportunities to deposit into your own bank account and thereby depositing into someone else’s. • PBA Deposits: • Keep promises to yourself • Do small acts of kindness (service) • Be gentle with yourself • Be honest • Renew yourself • Tap into your talents
Drops in a bucket • Being gentle with ourselves and others • We can drop into others buckets and we can definitely drop into our own buckets by using positive self talk!

9/18 Homework • HW • Read 1st Habit (pp. 47-72) and practice the “Baby Steps” • Come to class next week with some reactions—this can be part of contact hours! • Complete “Relationship Bank Account” worksheet in order to practice some of the lessons. • If needed, finish “Personality Puzzle” • Contact Time/Announcements • Homecoming tee shirts will be sold starting today through Wednesday Sept. 24th • Homecoming t- shirts: work lunch and visit classrooms • T-shirt decorating party: Wednesday, Sept. 24th after school until 3:45; we expect all of you are there! • Need to sign-up for: • Advertising, classroom visits, poster for tee-shirt table, decorating, call freshmen to invite OR make a locker tag! • Idea: make a locker tag with all the homecoming week events listed. • Expectation: Attend one homecoming activity with at least two of your freshmen • Commish to lead warm-up next week
