  12. Have an open line of communication about internet use with your child.

  13. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!

  14. Set up groundrules for internet use

  15. Monitor your child’s internet activity…does the screen go blank when you walk by, where do they surf, do they have an instant messaging account?

  16. Do they have a buddy list, where do the names come from, do they know the person offline?

  17. Google your child’s name in quotations, phone number, email address, etc. Also check under Google Images.

  18. Install internet monitoring software to see what sites are being accessed from your computer.

  19. 117 MMS students (38% surveyed) reported having access to the internet in their room at home.
