  11. Good writing is not an accident • Clear and succinct • Proposal should make sense • Proofread and edited by someone else • No grammatical or typo errors • Use jargon and acronyms appropriately and sparingly

  12. Follow the rules • Check eligibility • Match proposal to published guidelines • Read the directions • Don’t try to write your own rules

  13. Objectives and goals • Specific • Measurable • Achievable • Sustainable

  14. Budget • Narrative must match budget • Reflect all project activities • No unexplained costs • Use accurate technology costs • Get actual quotes • Do not inflate • Never guess

  15. Time is precious • Develop project idea • Research • Involve stakeholders • Write proposal • Review and submit • “Last minute” is easy to spot

  16. Passion • Believe in your proposal • Write with enthusiasm • Use positive words like • “our students will achieve” • “we will” • “this grant will allow us to…”

  17. Enhancing your success • Study scoring rubric • Volunteer to review other grants • Ask for copies funded federal and state proposals are public record • Find successful proposals on Internet • Contact successful grantees • Ask for your reviewers’ comments • Learn from rejection
