GIS Project in Oradea - Development • In 1998 the local Council of Oradea approved the inception of the GIS Project • The project was initiated with the financing of the Swedish Municipalities Federation (S.A.L.A.) • The Swedish financial supportended at the 1st of May 1999, but the project continued (sustained by the Local Council)

  4. GIS Project in Oradea - Development • The GIS Office wascreated, within the Urbanism Department, on the1st October 1998 • The employees from GIS Office are implementing the Geographical Informational System (in-house implementation)

  5. GIS Project in Oradea - Development • The total amount of investments in the project (both from the own budget and external financing) • 1998-2003 440.000 USD • 2004 225.000 USD

  6. Results • Analysis of informational system at city hall level • Field survey measurements - 10% of city’s area • Agreement of the potential spatial data owners regarding the implementation of GIS at city level

  7. Results • Vectorization of city’s streets from 1:1000 plans • Vectorization of the metropolitan area’s streets • Implementation of different GIS applications • IKONOS Satellite images for Metropolitan Area of Oradea

  8. Projects Financing • The Infrastructure Management Informational System project was financed by the Flemish government • The City Hall of Oradea is beneficiary of Intergraph’s Open Interoperability Grant

Short-term Objectives • Geo-spatial data standardization at metropolitan area level • Implementation of applications that will allow the simultaneous update and interrogation access on the spatial databases using metropolitan Intranet and Internet • Implementation of applications for assisting urban planning activities with the integration of all urban indicatives specific for Oradea region.
