  3. Project Rationale • Manufacturing is vital to PA’s economy • 12% of employment, 20% of wages, $64B of GSP • Workforce is a “challenge” to PA manufacturers • Gov. Rendell’s Manufacturing Work Group • 80% of firms face skilled worker shortages • NAM’s Skills Gap 2001 (Shortage continues – 2006) • Outreach efforts should begin at middle school • National Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing .
