  1. The Many Ways In Which CCTV Can Keep Your Business Safe

  2. Gone are the days when security cameras and close circuit television systems were only ever seen in places such as banks. Nowadays, around 10% of the population are estimated to have cameras fitted at their homes and a growing number of businesses are reaching out to commercial locksmith services to have CCTV systems installed to help strengthen their security. But why, are they really that effective? How CCTV can act as a deterrent for criminals: Criminals must work quickly to gain unlawful entry to homes and buildings, but no matter how fast they act, they will be caught on video if cameras are there watching their every move.

  3. If the camera is clearly visible to the intruder or thief they will often move on to another property that has much weaker security systems in place, so apart from catching criminals in the act, they can even act as a deterrent and prevent any crime from taking place at all. When a study was carried out back in 2012 by the University of North Carolina, more than 400 criminals serving sentences for robbery and other related charges were polled, and of these, more than half stated that a visible security system such as CCTV would encourage them to bypass their plan and move to a less secure building, whether it was a home or business. Of those polled, many also told researchers that if they had already begun trying to gain unlawful entry to a property, they would stop as soon as they spotted a camera and flee the scene.

  4. This study, along with others conducted more recently, all found that cameras and CCTV systems were a more effective deterrent for criminals than security signs or even the presence of a police officer in the area. How cameras capture criminals in the act: While the idea is for a security system to prevent a criminal act from taking place at all, on the unfortunate occasions that an intruder does manage to gain unlawful entry to a building protected by cameras, the footage they capture can be used to assist law enforcement in finding the person, or persons responsible.

  5. Even if the criminal is wearing a mask or never looks directly at the camera, other details may be revealed such as when the incident occurred, whether there were any vehicles in the vicinity when it happened, how did they gain entry and whether anything was stolen from the property. If you’re pursuing legal action over any other matter concerning your home or business, cameras be helpful in showing what events occurred on certain days.

  6. Can any business have a CCTV system installed by a licensed locksmith? While you may be permitted to place cameras around your commercial premises, you are not allowed to invade anyone’s privacy by putting them in places where individuals would expect to be private, such as washrooms, locker rooms or changing cubicles.

  7. If you want more information about having CCTV installed at your business, or need advice about where to place the cameras so that you conform to the law while still protecting all areas of your property, you can chat to a licensed locksmith about your options. They will also be happy to perform a security assessment and advise you whether any additional security measures may be required or recommended.
