  3. EMPAC- Whoami? • EMPAC - An asset management bolt-on to Oracle and Peoplesoft from Indus International • Principally used as a computerized maintenance management system • Major Modules: • Competitors • Datastream • Maximo • Others

EMPAC talks to Oracle Applications • ISI (Integrated Solutions Initiative) software is designed to allow EMPAC to communicate with Oracle applications • Interfaces used for integration • Inventory open interface • Requisition open interface • Purchasing open interface • Receiving open interface

Indus Stores is specifically linked to Oracle Inventory • All stock items in EMPAC must be linked to an equivalent inventory item in Oracle • Stores locations in EMPAC must be linked to inventory organization locations in Oracle applications • Inventory organizations in Oracle must be associated with master Inventory organization, to cross reference with the store locations in EMPAC

A typical project • The first step is chart out the As-Is & To-Be processes Blaster takes shot record with details of number & layout of holes and seismograph reading Example - A blasting process Explosives truck weighed before and after explosives are unloaded Shot record handed over to Plant Manager Manager compares receipt with measured weight of explosives Release payment to vendor through Accounts H/O Do they match? Yes Explosives supplier sends receipt to Plant Manager No Get back to vendor and blaster and reconcile

But, there are issues that arise... • When interfacing with Oracle 8.0, Work Order completion, is currently not possible due to a bug ( a patch is due for release) • Collecting information necessary to maintain the system might be difficult in remote /small sites • Detailed training manuals need to be developed
