Color of light. White light is light that has all colors in it. Sunlight is white light. White light is broken down into the colors of the spectrum by a prism. Color by reflection. The color an object appears depends on what color light is reflected back to the observer.

  1. Color of light • White light is light that has all colors in it. • Sunlight is white light. • White light is broken down into the colors of the spectrum by a prism.

  2. Color by reflection • The color an object appears depends on what color light is reflected back to the observer. • What color light is reflected back by a green shirt? • What color light is reflected back by a white shirt? By a black shirt?

  3. Color by transmission • If white light is shown through a green glass filter, all red and blue light is absorbed by the glass and green light is transmitted. • Brightest colors are yellow and green. • Least bright are red and blue or violet.
