  2. Getting Started!! • We hope that this tutorial is informative as well as functional. The following slides are a quick overview of some basic ‘How To’ for first time SMARTBoard users. • Remember, your SMARTBoard is your friend and you two will be spending a lot of time together! Be nice to each other and enjoy!

  3. Open SMARTBoard • Click on the icon for SMART Notebook

  4. Working the Tools… Save File. Consider how you wish to organize. Some find it helpful to organize your files by subject, class pd, or other means. Advance or return To next page Add a new page Open Existing File

  5. Working the Tools… SMART Notebook Capture Tool Paste Undo / Redo Transparent Screen Screen Shade Capture Tool Cut Split Screen Full Screen

  6. Smart Capture Tool The Smart Capture Tool can be used to take a ‘Picture’ of another Smart Notebook page, or any other document on your monitor. Click and drag to create a box around the desired image, let go, and the camera will automatically send the image to a new SmartBoard Slide.

  9. Side Bar Tools Page Viewer. See all pages that are part of this file. Change the order of slides by dragging to order desired. Lesson Tool kit. More info on next slide Attach a File Page Fill Effects Move toolbar to opposite side Next or Previous Page Add a new page

  10. Side Bar Tools Search for a specific topic in the toolkit. • Side Bar Tools Access content that you have saved and may use on a regular basis. ie…banner, page layouts, timer. Tools organized by subject area. Below is an example of an item under English / Language Arts / Phonics. Roll the die and the student will hear the vowel being pronounced.

  11. Side Bar Tools Searching ‘Banner’ will give you a great tool! The banner streams across the page in a loop. Perfect tool for messages in the morning for your students to read. You can change background, font type and color, as well as speed. This would be an item to save in ‘My Content’ should you wish to use it everyday.

  12. Side Bar Tools Make sure to have this box checked for ‘Auto Hide’. ‘Auto Hide’ will make this box disappear when you touch the screen.

  13. Side Bar Tools The ‘Lesson Activity Tool Kit’ has many different games and activities that are fun ways to have students interact with the board. Perfect for vocabulary in all subject areas! This is an example of taking some time to just PLAY with the board.

  14. Side Bar Tools Each game can be easily edited for your subject area.

  15. Side Bar Tools The SMART Exchange will give you access to hundreds of SMARTBoard lessons created by other teacher. Simply search for the subject area desired.

  16. Little Tricks You can easily convert handwritten text to type font by clicking on the drop down arrow and selecting ‘Recognize… The SmartBoard will convert your handwriting to typed font. (If it can read your writing…)

  18. Little Tricks To add text to a screen, simply start typing. By double clicking on the text, font options will appear.

  19. Little Tricks Once you highlight an object on the screen, hit the drop down arrow and several options will become available.

  20. Little Tricks Clone allows you to make a copy of the object numerous times. Perfect for circles and shapes Locking will keep the object from moving on the screen. Flip can go L/R or top to bottom Order allows you to place objects one on top of another, similar to Publisher

  21. Little Tricks Remember, your SmartBoard is also a monitor, and anything you can show on your computer screen can be used to show students. The Transparency tool allows you to write over any web page you may have showing.

  22. Printing By sending a document to your e-mail (from a copier) you can then send that document to the SmartBoard via a Print Option. Choose Smart Notebook Document Writer. The document will print to a new screen on your board.

  23. Printing By selecting Print from the File drop down, you can print the screen. Options include print one page or all the pages in your presentation.
