Factors that influence culture and food. • History of the people and land • Regional influences (choosing food based on popular trends in the area) • Religious influences • Ethnic influences • People may select foods based on ethnic background (ethnic foods) • People may follow certain patters for eating, cooking and buying food items • Food taboos: certain people will prohibit or avoid groups based on their social customs
