  1. Mineral A solid natural material that has a crystal form and its own set of properties

  2. Hardness The ability of a mineral to resist being scratched and is categorized using the Moh’s Scale of Hardness

  3. Streak The color of the mark that a mineral makes when it is scraped on a tile

  4. Luster The way that a mineral’s surface reflects light. Luster can be metallic, shiny, dull/earthy or glassy.

  5. Density The amount of mass in a known volume of an object or substance

  6. Inorganic Material or substance that does not contain the element carbon

  7. Physical Property A property that can be observed, measured or changed without changing the substance itself

  8. Classification The grouping of material based on their similarities and differences

  9. Cleavage The breaking of a mineral along smooth, flat surfaces

  10. Fracture The breaking of a mineral along rough, jagged surfaces
