  2. Introduction • Attended Granite Technical Center in 2006-2007. Where I obtained my Certification for medical assisting. • Medical Assistant for little over 5 years • Employed at a Insta-care for IHC

  3. Thesis • Care after a laceration is very important andoneshould educated as to the steps to take to care for their laceration, to avoid infection or complications.

  4. When are Sutures needed: • Adeep,jagged or gapingtear/cut in ones skin • 12 hours for extremities/ 16 hours for face

  5. Setting up for sutures • Sterile suture tray • Position patient • LET gel for children • Do not apply to fingers, toes, lips, ears or penis

  6. First 48 hours • Bulky dressing • Ointment • Adaptic • Gauze • Gauze wrap • Co-band NO WATER!

  7. Until sutures come out • No soaking/dirty water • Keep uncovered or band aid/ointment • Watch for infection • Redness • Swelling • Pus

  8. Sutures taken out: • Face- 5 days • Scalp- 7 days • Trunk/extremities- 10 – 14 days ** Start the count the day after getting sutures**

  9. If exposed to the sun while in the first year, SUN BLOCK After a month, start massaging Vitamin E oil or mederma Scar revision is not considered until after 6 months Scar Care
