  4. Presentation Description • How do you implement the flipped model while still engaging students in the classroom? Using FREE technology! This session will focus on using technology tools such as Khan Academy, TeacherTube, Vimeo, Thinkfinity, and Quizlet in a middle school science setting. You will learn ways to flip your classroom and integrate video to engage students while teaching the common core standards. The strategies presented will focus on science, but may be applied to other content areas as well.

  5. Basic Principle of Flipped Classrooms What is traditionally done in the class is now done at home, and what is done at home can be done in the classroom. It really is not that simple. 

  6. Educate, Engage, and Inspire Students • Teachers link school appropriate videos on their website, blog, or wiki for students to watch anywhere in order to enhance learning. • Graphic organizers, diagrams, and other tools can help focus student learning depending on the topic. • This allows the teacher to have more time to assist students with work during class time and provides more opportunities for review at home.

  7. There are Many Ways to Flip Your Classroom • Do not think you have to make your own videos. • Takes time to plan on what “parts” of your content you want to flip. • Find help or a partner to work with to help you on this journey • Find out what is the “best” way to access your students. • Find a way to engage students in the videos, not just “listening” to lectures on tapes. • Videos should followed by some sort of discussion questions.

  8. Before we begin… Brainstorm a topic of interest. Think about something that you will be teaching in the near future that you would like to supplement with some resources that you find in this session.

  9. Your name • Your current position • Your school district or organization • The topic that you have chosen, and why.
