The photo’s caption does NOT count. • Then, read the article and answer the corresponding questions. • Next to each question, identify the paragraph in which you found the answer.

5. Language Arts – Work Session01/22/18 • Essential Questions: How can talking and working with others help one analyze a novel? How do internal and external forces help people grow? • Standard: ELASE6RI1 – Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. • Learning Targets: Identify claims. Elect your position on these claims. Support your claim with logical reasoning and relevant evidence.

6. Language Arts – Work Session01/22/18 Novel Studies • Now, determine what you think the theme of the story will be. • Be prepared to present and discuss the following items to the class: • How you know what the theme of your novel will be; • What lead you to this conclusion; • What you anticipate being in the book; and • What you have learned from the materials you have. • You may work with your tablemates and present as a group. Each group will have about 3-5 minutes to talk.

7. Language Arts – Closing Session01/22/18 Novel Studies • Answer the following prompts on your exit ticket: • List: • 3 things you learned while completing today’s activity • 1 thing about the author (4th & 5th periods only) • 1 thing about the setting • 1 thing about the background knowledge you learned Homework: • Finish any incomplete reading portfolio work! • Be sure that you have completed your independent reading book before Friday, January 26, 2018!
