The Koru is an important symbol developed by the the Maori people of New Zealand. • It is a spiral shape based on an unfurling silver fern frond. • The symbol represents new life, growth, strength, and peace. • The circular shape of the Koru conveys perpetual movement while the coil suggests a return to origins.
The Koru symbol is used extensively in tattoo and sculptural art carvings in New Zealand, and it is even used as the logo for New Zealand Air.
