  1. BPAC October 2012 Milestonesand Schedule of SVD Construction Markus Friedl (HEPHY Vienna) on behalf ofthe Belle II SVD Collaboration

  2. What Happened Since February? • Sensors  Details by T.Tsuboyama • Micron delivered trapezoidal sensors with new atoll design • Construction database under development • Ladder assembly  Details by Y. Onuki • Double-origami ladder built at IPMU, Japan • 4 construction sites for series production • Mechanics  Details by I.Gfall • Design completed for all layers • Cooling  Details by C.Niebuhr • Detail design converging • Mockup tests ongoing • Electronics  Readout details by myself, integration by K.Hara • DC/DC converters and other parts tested • FADC design completed, layout in progress Concerns/recommendations In Feb 2012 BPAC report M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  3. SVD Schedule • In early 2012, a detailed schedule was worked out and is now maintained by C.Irmler (HEPHY Vienna) • More than 200 unique items (and growing) with dependencies, duration and responsible persons • MS Project & PDF versions are available at http://www.hephy.at/project/belle/belle2svd/schedule • SVD ready for installation in August 2015 M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  4. Sensors Ladder Production Mechanics Cooling Electronics Summary M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  5. Sensors (1/2) • HPK • Large rectangular sensors: • 130% of installed quantity delivered already • Will issue an extra order for ~15% more in 2013 • Small rectangular sensors: • Design submission and order by November 2012 • Delivery until June 2013 • Construction database is being developed • First filled with sensor data (objects, measurements, transfers, …) • Then also other objects M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  6. Sensors (2/2) • Micron • Trapezoidal sensors: • 3 wafers with new p-stop design delivered in August 2012, tested OK • Beam test + irradiation + beam test in October 2012 • After analysis: series production order by December 2012 • Delivery until August 2013 M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  7. Sensors Ladder Production Mechanics Cooling Electronics Summary M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  8. Ladder Production Sites • Discussion among all parties during summer 2012 B2GM • Plan for sharing of production: • L3: Melbourne • L4: Tata (at CERN due to export restrictions) • L5: HEPHY Vienna • L6: IPMU • We also agreed that it is important to keep some flexibility in our plan, so that one site can help another if trouble/delay occurs M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  9. Origami Prototype Modules • Single Origami modules (HEPHY, 2010 and 2011) • Double Origami module (IPMU, 2012) • Both: collaborative effort of HEPHY, IPMU and Tata M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  10. Ladder Production Schedule • Full ladder prototypes (L5 & L6) by February 2013 • Followed by final optimization of jigs • Series production for ~1 year starting summer/autumn 2013 M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  11. Sensors Ladder Production Mechanics Cooling Electronics Summary M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  12. Mechanics • Detailed design for all layers (including L3) completed M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  13. Mechanics: Minor Open Issues • Ladder mount on end rings • Not finalized yet, but converging • Prototypes being prepared • Cooling for L3 hybrids • heat pipes look promising, now investigating Acknowledging help from MPI & DESY engineers! M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  14. Mechanics Schedule • Overview: • Overall design is completed • Ladder mounts to be finalized by end of 2012 • Carbon fiber rib prototypes now being produced • Support cone prototypes in August 2013 • End flange prototype by March 2013 • Detailed SVD mockup by March 2013 • See slides from recent SVD-PXD meeting for more details: http://indico.mppmu.mpg.de/indico/getFile.py/access?contribId=2&sessionId=2&resId=0&materialId=slides&confId=1877 M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  15. Sensors Ladder Production Mechanics Cooling Electronics Summary M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  16. Cooling • CO2 system in Belle II does not need inspection by Japanese government (capacity is too small) • Will be operated by the KEK cryogenics experts • Cooling Mockup at DESY • Operated with XFEL CO2 unit (similar to MARCO which will become available by the end of 2012) • Distribution & Routing of cooling pipes • Number of lines is defined • First design for manifolds and routing exists • 2 options for transfer lines (3 pipes in larger one or pipe-in-pipe) • APV25 cooling contact is converging M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  17. Sensors Ladder Production Mechanics Cooling Electronics Summary M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  18. Front-End Electronics Schedule prototypes successfully tested design submitted prototypes available designed but not yet ordered prototypes tested  ok design very similar to +z L4-6  soon! M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  19. Back-End Electronics Schedule • FADC: circuit design done, now to CAD & PCB layout • Then surrounding system components (controller, backplane, …) • Prototype system in Q1/2013 • Firmware development in parallel M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  20. Sensors Ladder Production Mechanics Cooling Electronics Summary M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule

  21. Summary • Lots of progress in all fields • Detailed (and maintained) schedule available on the web • Sensors • all deliveries to be completed in 2013 • Ladder assembly • Prototype ladder in early 2013, series production in late 2013 • Mechanics • Overall geometry solved, now optimizing details • Cooling • Mockup tests at DESY • Electronics • FADC layout in progress M.Friedl (HEPHY Vienna): SVD Schedule
