  2. Bell Ringer • Please write a reflect on the following quote: • “There is a tide in the affairs of men. Which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune.   3. Objective • Today we will be able to get to know each other, reflect on changes, and make goals for the future.

  4. Reflection • Please take this time to fill out the questionnaire I will provide you. • I will use this to not only get to know you, but to learn how I can best help you as your teacher.

  5. Silent Discussion • No talking • Honest reflection • Respond to the question on each big paper in writing • Respond to what classmates say in writing • Be honest, be open

  6. What are you feeling today about the current change in your schedule?

  7. What reading strategies/activities did you do in Ms. Jung’s class that you really enjoyed? (Think about discussions, debates, writing prompts, reading etc.)

What to expect from me • When you enter the room: • Bell ringer • Get material out • During class • Teacher led instruction • Group work • I love debates/discussions asking questions • Homework • Usually we will get started on our daily work in class. Whatever isn’t finished is homework. • General Policies: • No Eating or cell phone use in class. Sorry, it just is what it is. • Music if you ask and are working. It is a privilege.

Grading • Formative Assessments 35% • Homework, classwork, exit tickets, Socratic Seminar, discussions • Summative Assessments 50% • Performance Task, Essays, Projects, Final Exams, Midterm Exams, Chapter Tests • Class Participation 15% • Bell ringers, showing up and on time, staying on task, not talking out of turn • Grade Scale • A=100-90 • B=89-80 • C=79-70 • D=69-60 • F=59-0

  15. For Your Convenience • Late Work • Life Happens…In the event of missing an assignment follow these guidelines: • You have until the following Monday to turn in late work from the previous week. Each day it is late, I take off 10% of the grade. Essentially it goes down a letter grade. • School Website: • Your new BFF.   17. Nerves • ACT • Yes, of course I will help! We are in this together! • Big Change • Uncomfortable, hate it, emotionally drained, different, can be a change for the better, haven’t had me before so can’t say, • New Teacher/New Style/Can’t Help • Open Minded: You can be your own worst enemy • Not nervous • I am nervous too about meeting all of you. Just as it is an adjustment to get a new teacher in the middle of third quarter, it is an adjustment for me to have new students as well. • However, I am SUPER excited. I LOVE juniors and was thrilled that if I had to get new classes, that it was YOU! • Again, we are in this together.

Participation Points • Everyone starts out the quarter with 100 participation points. • You can LOSE points for not following our classroom responsibilities and procedures. • You can also EARN points back for following responsibilities and procedures. • Each quarter you have the opportunity to earn 200 participation points. • Every five weeks we start over and every starts at 100 again.

  24. Things Fall Apart • What has been happening in the book so far? • Text to Text, Text to World, Text to Self • Why do you thing the author, Chinua Achebe wrote the novel?(What is it’s purpose?) • Have you all read the poem, “The Second Coming?”
