  3. Before we start, how would you describe each man's life?

  4. Time to review what these two men were all about...

  5. When you see a quote you like, record it on your sheet...

  6. Write down no more than two quotes as you will need some of the space later...

  7. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

  8. If you're not ready to die for it, put the word “freedom” out of your vocabulary.

  9. Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.

  10. Nobody can give you freedom. Nobody can give you equality or justice or anything. If you're a man, you take it.

  17. Violence is not going to solve our problem…I feel that Malcolm has done himself and our people a great disservice…urging Negroes to arm themselves and prepare to engage in violence, as he has done, can reap nothing but grief.

  18. Dr. King wants the same thing I want – freedom. Now his method of going about getting it is the nonviolent way. We may differ in method, but that does not mean we differ in objective.

  19. Now that we have read some of their words of wisdom...

  20. As we go along, jot down quotes you like under the person whose ideas they represent. Don’t forget to write down who said it!

Now, for the assignment: 1) Decide whether you believe in the teachings of Malcolm X or MLK Jr. 2) Either create or borrow a quote which represents your belief. 3) Create a piece of art (8.5” x 11” or larger) which promotes your belief using your slogan and visuals related to a movement we have studied or an event within one of those movements. This can be drawn, collaged, computer generated, etc. If you use someone else’s quote, make sure you indicate who made that statement. DO A GOOD JOB!!!!
