Butte College Customized Contracts • 2007- 2009 Division State Architect (DSA) Academy • Mission: To promote quality design and construction of educational facilities and other governmental buildings in California by providing centralized training. • Goal: To serve as a major learning resource for all parties involved in the planning, design and construction process. • Objectives: Through the training, certification and educational programs, the Academy will promote a uniform understanding and knowledge of application of processes, procedures and interpretations of code and regulations needed for successful plan review and approval and construction. • Serve as a primary source for collaborative policy determination and oversight for educational facilities and other governmental buildings. • 2007- 2009 Grid Neutral & Cost Neutral Schools http://www.qka.com/Grid_Neutral.php • Electrical independence for California schools and Community Colleges • In 2007 at the Green Schools Summit State Architect David Thorman announced the Division of the State Architect’s (DSA) goal of having all school projects in California be Grid Neutral by 2010. • A grid neutral site produces at least as much electricity as it consumes in a year. Becoming grid neutral isn’t a goal but a necessity to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels and reduce California’s carbon footprint. • Butte College Facilitated Six Workshops– The result of this intensive process is a thorough guidebook that provides detailed information on the significance of going grid neutral. The guidebook includes case studies, tax incentives, and an outline of steps Districts can follow to become grid neutral. The guidebook was presented at the 2008 Green Schools Summit – accessible on the website

Spring 2009 Green Building Certificate Program 9 units CNST/BIT 10 Green Building Technology and Practices - 3 units Explores concepts from the U.S. Green Building Council and Build it Green Certificate Programs CNST/BIT 20 Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy - 3 units Focuses on energy efficiency strategies and renewable energy systems such as solar and wind for residential and commercial applications CNST/BIT25 Green Building and LEED Certification - 3 units Preparation to become a certified leader in green building practices for commercial and residential products through the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
