  6. Viewing From Your Computer • When you are participating in the course through the webcasting option you need to post a response to the readings and questions posed within 1 week of the class to the Discussion Board for the designated class in WebCT.

Webcasting Environment • Watching live and questions • Questions will be answered during the first 10 minutes of class again 5 minutes before break time and again before end of class • Telephone in classroom 408-924-2874 • Emergency only desk top 408-924-6653 • Archive: watch and respond to readings presented and the “Questions to Consider” within 1 week; post to Discussion Board on WebCT for that class

Do be aware that the Chat Room screen will be on the monitor for the class and those at home viewing to see your question.

  9. Preparing Power Point for Presentation • Use IBM compatible disk • Submit to Atn@sjsu.edu least one week ahead • NO MORE THAN 25 SLIDES • NO TRANSITIONS, MUSIC, VIDEOS, or ANIMATIONS • At least 24 Pt. Font

Assignments: All due on cited dates* • Brief individual culture paper: due 2/28 • Individual poster presentations: TBA • Individual paper on population: due 4/11 • Prepared readings: due as assigned • Group presentations: TBA • Final Evaluation exam week all students must attend 5/23 • Provide 2 copies of assignments except those submitted to WebCT • Assignments will not be accepted late without prior approval*

Personal Culture Paper: Due 2/28 • Recognizing ones own culture, race, ethnicity, & values • Describe 3 attributes, practices, values or beliefs or other characteristics affecting health • Describe 2 health problems • Identify 1 relevant Health People 2010 objectives • Analyze factors (yours) which could conflict with nursing practice; focus on ethical issues • Use APA, 3 - 4 pages; www reference; 2copies • See Grading Criteria for more details • Submit to Assignment Area of WebCT

  12. Required Reading Preparation • Readings will be assigned and are part of participation grade of 25 Points • Typed, use guide in syllabus and course WebCT. Prepare according to sample. • Present within 15 minutes during class • Once assigned you are responsible thus you need to get the assignment in for the class

Individual Poster Presentation:30 - 45 minutes • Describe population at risk, cultural attributes, practices • Describe 2 important health problems • Evaluate a website • Healthy People 2010 • Describe 2 research studies; • Prepare packet; multiple choice performance based questions • Ethical conflict with nursing practice; identify principle & theories to resolve More details in WebCT Grading Forms

Individual Paper Culturally Distinct Group: Due 4/11 • Same ethnic group as individual poster presentation • See WebCT Grading Forms for details • Include Healthy People 2010; nursing intervention (Fenton & Brykeznski, 1993) • 2 research studies • Include Purnell’s domains; ethical conflict and theory to resolve---explain • 10-15 pages; APA; 2 references from WWW • Submit to Assignment area of WebCT

Health Promotion Program Group Presentation: 45 minutes • Based on one of healthy behaviors (Gorin & Arnold, 1998) • Healthy People 2010 objective(s) • Theoretical framework • Collaborative and leadership skills • Include a budget • Access, acceptability, effectiveness, outcomes • Ethical issues; theory to resolve • Packet • Individual and group evaluations • See Grading Forms WebCT for more details
