Introducing Our Services • Range of mental health services and substance misuse services across 90 sites • Span 8 boroughs in central and north west London • Last year we provided: • community care for 41,000 local people • In-patient care for 3,200 local people • Annual turnover £180 million • 22 in-patient units with over 850 beds • 3,000 staff - 50% nursing

Local Population • 1.7 million people across 8 boroughs served • Some of most affluent and most deprived areas in London • 35% of population belongs to minority ethnic groups • Over 150 languages are spoken • Highly mobile with 30% of London’s asylum seekers • High levels of rough sleepers, up to 50% have mental health as well as SMS problems • Young population

What is a Foundation Trust? • Independent Public Benefit Corporation • More responsive to needs of communities served • More accountable to local people and staff who can become members and governors • Part of the NHS and subject to NHS standards • Provides essential services to communities served • Provides free care at the point of delivery • Works closely with local partners • Overseen by an independent regulator, Monitor

Why Become a Foundation Trust? • Involvement from local communities in development of services • Greater freedom to shape services to meet needs of communities served • Improved financial stability with legally binding contracts • Greater freedom to use our capital to improve services • All trusts able apply for NHS Foundation Trust by 2008

  11. Our Vision We will work in partnership to provide responsive and dependable mental health and substance misuse services for the communities we serve, encouraging recovery, well-being and social inclusion, individual choice and independent living through high quality care.

Our Guiding Principles • To provide integrated, high quality, timely services based on the needs of the individual • To engage meaningfully with service users, carers and the local community to improve and align our services to their needs • To provide and maintain to a high standard the physical environments in which we provide services • To recruit, retain and develop a skilled and motivated workforce that is proud to work for the Trust • To provide a financial base that is robust for the future development of the Trust and to provide economic and efficient services • To further develop Trust information systems to support ongoing improvement in patient care and performance management • To seek and develop new business consistent with our vision Have your say…
