  23. Project 1: Student • Graduate student from UC-Berkeley • 12m of Holocene core from remote lake in British Columbia • Advisor experienced in coring, processing; student needed training in ICD

  24. Minimal local facilities: MSCL, linescan cameras, scope camera, sample prep • Shipped cores to Minneapolis, spent five days • Archived half of each core

  25. Project 2: Faculty • Geomorphologist from Macalester College • Use new methods to measure past glacier fluctuations with lake sediment

  26. No experience with cores • One staff assisted throughout project • 20m of core analyzed and archived
