What an Experiment gets from us: • professional advice, supplies and installations • customized and engineering solutions • 2 year warranty on the installations • operational service with specialized instrumentation but: • good supplies and work have a price! • it needs to be well organized, planned and managed • last minute jobs are possible, but should not be the usual way of working TS/EL/OF Optical Fibre Services

Optical patch-cords, cables, connections • A large variety of patch-cords and cables exist in the contract (already over 200) • Any optical patch-cord or cable can be supplied • Above items are not in CERN store! • Quality of optical connections is difficult to check and should be left to professionals! • TS/EL/OF is equipped for and capable of performing this work TS/EL/OF Optical Fibre Services

To summarize • TS-EL-OF and the B1201/TS/LHC contract provide a professional service to the experiments. • The Experiments can make use of the blanket purchase and installation contract: • blanket envelope 4 MSfr. • project(s) need to be defined, budgetized and planned • combined workload is more than can be managed by the available staff • since the part done for the experiment is far more complex than the LHC part, we consider it reasonable to request support from the PH department TS/EL/OF Optical Fibre Services
