Types of protection

the 4 basic protection principles
Explosive mixtures can penetrate inside of the equipment and ignite therein,

but explosion will not be transmitted to the surrounding atmosphere :

Flameproof enclosure d

Powder filling q

The electrical equipment incorporates a principle preventing from penetration

and/or contact of explosive gas with internal flame sources :

Pressurised apparatus p

Oil immersion o

not take fire. The energy produced by the sparks or thermal effects is not

sufficient to cause ignition :

ESSENTIAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

  • These cover a wide field,
  • fully detailed in Annex II of the new Directive.
  • - Integrated safety principle
  • - Specific conditions of inspection and maintenance
  • - Environmental conditions
  • - Marking
  • - Instructions for use
  • - Choice of materials

  • Design and manufacture
  • Potential ignition sources
  • > Sparks
  • > Flames
  • > Electric arcs
  • > High surface temperatures
  • > Acoustic energy
  • > Radiation: optical, electromagnetic or other sources
  • Risks caused by software
  • Explosive atmospheres caused by the presence of gas,
  • vapours, mist and air-dust mixtures
slide18

The following risks have then been taken into account :

Contact of the load chains on the load, the return wheels and the chain guide

Contact of the wire rope on the drum and the pulleys

Activation of the switches (limit or overload devices)

Rope guide

Wheels of the trolleys

Load hook

Belt

Wheels in polyamide of the trolleys for the festoons

Hand chain

Brake pinion on the hand chain blocks

Torque limitor on the chain hoists

All the materials have been communicated to INERIS.

The standard EN 13463-5 – ‘c’ type of protection – specifies that there is no risk to have a spark when the speeds are inferior to 1m/s.

Electro-static tests have been done on the belts.

Heating tests have been done on the torque limitors.

Conclusion :

Except the hand chain which has to be in stainless steel, no specific material is required (no bronze).

We have now an attestation number delivered by INERIS.

DUST ATMOSPHERES

  • Zone 20 & 21 :
  • IP6X
  • Zone 22 :
  • - Conductive dust : IP6X
  • - Non conductive dust : IP5X
  • T° max < min (T° of ignition for layer of 5 mm - 75°K ,
  • 2/3 * T° of ignition in cloud)
