  1. APPLICATION Applicants pick and fill Forms from Makerere University: Overcrowding during application period. Less career guidance given to Students in Schools. Status of admission known at Makerere or media. Standard format of Joining Instructions and Admission Letters INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES Online application system being developed which will lead to decongestion at application. Regular career guidance leading to increased awareness on activities of the University. Communication of status of admission by SMS.   2. REGISTRATION Decentralised to Faculty level for Undergraduate Students. Centralised registration for Graduate Students at the School of Graduate Studies. Registration tagged to payment of University dues. Congestion during registration Online registration for both Undergraduate and Graduate Students. No congestion during registration

  3. TEACHING AND LEARNING Teaching Timetables are not availed to Students on time leading to late start of most lectures. Less monitoring of academic activities All teaching and learning at Main Campus. Duplication of programmes and courses. Teaching Timetables be given to Students before end of Semester. Frequent monitoring of academic activities on quarterly basis (Quarterly Reports). Up-country Campus introduced. Restructuring programmes to improve quality by merging and phasing of programmes

ACCESS TO EXAMINATION RESULTS Delayed access to examination results Missing marks/scripts Delayed processing of transcripts and certificates Senate to approve results two weeks before beginning of each Semester Students view results online before beginning of new Semester Transcripts issued once results are approved by Senate Certificates issued on or before Graduation Day.

  5. EXAMINATION PROCESSES Some Departments do not moderate examination questions. Weak invigilation by some Faculties. Use of names or and registration numbers in examinations. MODERATION OF EXAMINATIONS Internal Moderation of all Examinations at Departmental level External Moderation of examinations by External Examiners Strengthening of invigilation. Scouting and impromptu. checking during examinations Use of student numbers and registration numbers in examinations.

  6. APPEALS (ACADEMIC FREEDOM) Students who are aggrieved by the decision of the Board of his/her Faculty may appeal to the Senate Examinations Committee for reversal or moderation of the decision of the Board. Students who are dissatisfied with their marks are permitted to do so in 30 days from the date of publication of final results. Grounds for Appeal may include: Miscomputation of marks. Bias on part of Lecturer. Marks out of range with one’s overall performance.

  7. TIMELY PAYMENT OF FEES University dues are due on the first day of the Semester. Students unable to pay fees on the first day must ensure fees are paid by 6th week of the Semester. Proposal to give incentives to students who pay early and penalties for students who pay fees late.
