  1. Detector Control System at the GIF++ A. Polini (INFN Bologna) on behalf of WP 8.5.3 group 12/02/2014 Outline • Quick reminder on the GIF++ DCS • Status and latest developments • Next Steps

  2. DCS Reminder Counting Room AC/DC converter 48V 48V … OPC … Crate1 Crate2 Branch Controllers Mainframe HV/LV Boards HostileArea A. Polini 2 Use PVSS/WinCC OA (as in LHC experiments) • Many components, devices, HW and SW already available (CAEN System, CAN PSU, ELMB, ENV Sensors, VME crates etc.) CAEN Easy Power System • 1 mainframe, 1 Power Generator, 1-2 crates + with HV and LV boards(*) and 1 ADC A-3801 board for monitoring (128 channels), this includes also ENV and gas monitoring (*) Some Low Voltage possibly external (non CAEN) with remote control via PVSS Mainframe and PCs possibly placed proximity of the control room (non radiation area) along with DAQ PCs and equipment. EASY crates and other equipment, more close to detector area. A. Polini A. Polini 2

  3. Hardware Status (Dec 2013) Material already available • 1 CAEN mainframe (SY-1527 + PS A-1531 A-1532) • 1 (non EASY) HV board A-1526P (6ch 15 kV+) • 1 Branch Controller A-1676 • 1 PC (courtesy of ATLAS DCS, spare of past generation)DELL PowerEdge 1950 Items to buy or rent at E-pool • EASY 3000 Crate  on loan from ATLAS Muons • 1 ADC A-3801  on loan from ATLAS Muons • HV/LV/PS A. Polini

  4. Hardware Status (Feb 2014) GIF B. 190 Material installed • 1 CAEN mainframe (SY-1527 + PS A-1531 A-1532) • 1 (non EASY) HV board A-1526P (6ch 15 kV+) (repaired ok) • 1 Branch Controller A-1676 • 2 PC (courtesy of ATLAS DCS, spare of past generation)DELL PowerEdge 1950 • Also installed (on loan from ATLAS Muons) • EASY 3000 Crate • 1 ADC A-3801 A. Polini

  5. Test Location in B190 (old GIF) (i) 2 computers (Dell 1950) installed in CMF (NSC ATLAS_GIF_DCS) hostnames: pcgifdcs01, pcgifdcs02 Windows 2008 Server R.2 PVSS 3.8 and WinCCOA 3.11 A. Polini

  6. Test Location in B190 (old GIF) (ii) CMS GIF Setup 1 CAEN Mainframe + 1 HV 3516P board, 6ch, 12 KV 1 EASY crate + 1 ADC A3801 (128 ch) + 2 patchpanels (4x32 pair connectors  16x8 pairs) Mainframe hostname: pscaengif01  System could be developed/used in conjunction with existing GIF A. Polini

  7. Plans and Outlook Status: A neat temporary location for GIF++ setup has been established Some HW for setting up a template DCS is available and ready for installation This system will be used for test, developments within the DCS itself and will help in defining and develop the interfaces with the other subsystems (detectors, DAQ RadMon and GCS). Next Steps: Create a baseline DCS (WinCC-OA, simple control and monitoring, data archiving) to control the HW already available • Exercise useful to build up young expertise following next developments • System can be used to test parts of the final system (ENV sensors etc). • Options for synergies (existing GIF tests) Reminder: To further adapt to final needs  need precise specifications from Users/Detectors HW procurement A. Polini

  8. backup A. Polini

  9. Cost Estimate (i) DCS Caen Equipment ~ 15k€ (a bit less w/o EASY) RPC HV (12 KV min 6 ch): 5k€ - 8k€ TGCs: (3 KV, min 8 channels) 3.2k€ - 7.4k€ Extended Monitoring (ADC) and DAC (only w/ EASY) A. Polini

  10. Cost Estimate (ii) Low Voltage: RPC: (~45 W) TGC: LV requirements for TGC not yet available (as being heavily dependent on Front End electronics and detector design Option of using external (remotely controlled) Low Voltage systems possibly connected to DCS (CAN etc.) Cheaper Still controllable within DCS system PC and infrastructure: 2500 CHF A.
