  1. Summary, Budget and Personnel Issues

  2. RPP on the Web Before pdgLive, web was similar to the book • No use of the power of the Web • Used PostScript and PDF only pdgLive • Enables powerful searches of RPP database • Produces search results with Greek and math • Request particle, property, collab., journal article, review. • Links Summary Tables to Data Listings • Links Data to References • Links References to actual papers • Maintains PDF versions

  3. The Future of PDG Computing Finding the information you want has become much easier Link together: • SLAC SPIRES HEP database • Los Alamos preprint archives • PDG database • Journals • COMPAS databases • Durham databases RPP SPIRES Archives Journals

  4. Budget in Berkeleyin k$

  5. Who are the PDG? In Berkeley • Physicists: 3 half-time (next year 4) (2 ATLAS/CDF, 1 Theory/ATLAS 4 retired part-time • Editor/physicist • Administrative Assistant • Education Staff

  6. Outside Berkeley Substantial CERN role Doser, Mangano Review authors: many Vital Japanese role (First authors in 2002) Hagiwara, Hikasa, Nakamura, Tanabashi Review authors: Sakai, Sumiyoshi, Yamamoto European Meson Team Many group members and review authors around the world.

  7. Plus Working groups at CERN, FNAL, SLAC, KEK, etc. Workshop participants Referees for reviews Data Listings verifiers

  8. Large Collaboration International collab. of 166 people (19 countries and 100 institutions) 700 consultants in the HEP community Resembles a medium-sized experiment. Needs central management.

  9. Collaboration Issues • Increasing size of Booklet • Increasing size of Big Book • Should the Listings be dropped from the big book (while keeping Summary Tables, Reviews and Mini-reviews)? • Possible Cosmology Data/Parameters Group • Producing RPP for download or CD/DVD • Should there be one combined author list? • More?

  10. According to SLAC Library, the Review is the all-time top cited article in High Energy Physics with25,800citations. 2nd is Weinberg’s Standard Model paper with 6075

  11. Particle Data Group Summary • 2006 Edition of RPP and Booklet ~ a little late (limited personnel) • Most cited publication at Berkeley Lab & in HEP • Webpages 10 million hits/yr from >140 countries • 47,000 requests for book and booklet • 2005 Web update on schedule • Worldwide collaboration of LBNL, CERN, KEK, etc. • Data Listings and Reviews have equal usage • Papers entered/year have tripled • Reviews tripled and expanded • Cosmology Data/Parameters Group under consideration

  12. PDG Summary 2 • Continuing innovation in Listings and Reviews • New and revised reviews • Reorganized Listings sections • Workshops • Web offers many possibilities for the future • Access to PDG database via pdgLive • Powerful linkage with journals and SLAC/ Los Alamos databases • Future strength of Berkeley PDG in progress • Need Miquel replacement • Substantial progress on computing upgrade, but need funds to complete computing upgrade

  13. Particle Data GroupConclusion • PDG provides a vital, dynamic, innovative service to the HEP community • The HEP community depends on PDG to provide standards and to assure integrity and quality in summarizing particle physics
