  1. ALL Cambs Regional Network Event – Monday 16 March 4.30 – 6.00p.m. The new secondary curriculum:  ‘I spy’ Creativity!  Sharing best practice (so far!)

The objectives of this session are: • To offer a brief update of key national phases in language provision development • To look at how to evaluate our year 7 work so far and look forward to year 8 • To focus on the aim of ‘creativity’in the new languages curriculum • To share examples of lessons, sequences of lessons, strategies or projects that have been successful this year with year 7

Renewed KS3 framework • Now approved • Aligned with KS2 framework and designed to link to PoS • Examples and guidance in preparation • Briefings for LAs in June 2009 • For use by schools from September 2009 • New online modules on Creativity (complete) and using the framework for planning (in preparation)

  6. Primary Curriculum Review – interim report • Same overarching aims as for the new secondary curriculum • Sets out knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes • Subjects AND cross curricular themes • Dedicated section on languages

Recommendations for languages • Languages statutory from year 3 (starting in 2011) • Within ‘English, Communication and Languages’ • Only ‘one or two languages’, ‘as far as possible those that will be taught in KS3’ • Should reach level recommended in KS2 Framework by end of key stage • Continuing support through CPD and Ofsted to report on progress by 2014

  19. Q9 – Pronounce the following words out loud – día, zapato, especial, amarillo, único, hermano, junio Series 1 = excellent /Series 2 = improving /Series 3 = needs practice

  20. What is creativity? • Doing a lot with a little • Re-purposing learnt language imaginatively in new contexts • Making links with language • Generating ideas • Personal responses to stimulus material • Expressing own meanings • Creating different outputs (different genres)
