### Solving Two Step Equations

7.1

What is being done to the variable?
• 2x +1 =5
• X is being multiplied by 2 and added to 1
What is being done to the variable?
• Y is being divided by -7 and added by -9
Goal:
• To get x all by itself on one side of the equation. You do this by unwrapping the variable.
Unwrap the variable
• By doing the opposite operation in the reverse order
What are the opposite operations in the reverse order?

2x +1 =5

What is being done to x :

multiplied by 2 and added to 1

Opposite operation in reverse order:

subtract 1 and divide by 2

What are the opposite operations in the reverse order?
• What is being done to y:

Dividing by -7 and adding a - 9

• Opposite operation in reverse order:

subtract a -9 or add a 9 and multiply by-7

Steps
