ALACARTE PUBLISHERSQuote Coloring Books for Kids Home Get started Create your website with WordPress.com Best Informational Books for Kids of 2022 Informational books are non-몭ction books designed to help readers learn about real things. These books lack any literary content common to 몭ctional books. Recently child educators started recommending non-몭ction books even for grade-schoolers. Elementary-school students in the US are expected to spend 50% of their reading time on literature and 50% on informational books to help them develop a deeper knowledge of the world. While some kids adapt well to the informational content, the story-loving ones often tend to stay away from informational books and 몭nd them a chore. To bridge this gap, Alacarte publishers introduced a new category of science story books in which the story is based on real life animal behaviors, incidents, and observations [1]. The story uses basic elements of 몭ction, such as talking animals to keep the story engaging to kids. The story is used to clasp kids’ attention to the scienti몭c concept and is supplemented with informational text that explains the concepts in detail. The Sea Balance is the story of an anchovy who lived in the Black Sea [2]. The story is based on an actual incident of the Sea Walnut invasion that happened in the Black Sea in the 1980s. The non-native Sea Walnut species multiplied rapidly, competing with the native species for food and resources. This created an imbalance in the food web, killing most native species and destroying the natural ecosystem. Later, pink comb jellies, a natural predator of Sea Walnuts, were accidentally introduced to the Black Sea, which helped restore the natural ecosystem. The story takes the readers through Bubble’s story and introduces the concepts of the ecosystem, food web, species interactions, and invasive species. Another story from the same publishers is “Who Wants a Body Polish” [3]. The main character in the story is Luna, a cleaner 몭sh. Cleaner 몭sh are the ones that maintain the ocean and its creatures clean. The story throws light on the lesser-known lives of to their use. Privacy & Cookies: This site uses cookies. Cleaner 몭sh’s interaction with other species is an excellent example of cooperative behavior that is often observed in the animal kingdom. A third book by the same team, titled “Baako’s wild Journey” is a journey through the African Savanna [4]. Baako, the wildebeest calf gets separated from its herd on the day of its birth. Baako runs for his life and learns about the other animals that live in the same ecosystem. He understands who are his friends and foes. The African Savanna ecosystem and the various animal interactions are constantly displayed throughout the story. The story is supplemented with informational text on migratory behavior in animals. Follow Some other interesting informational books for kids are picture books like ‘Worst of Friends’ by Suzanne Tripp Jurmain [5], ‘Humongous Fungi’ by DK [6], fact books like ‘Curious Comparisons: A Life-Size Look at the World Around You’ by Jorge Doneiger [7], ‘Truth or Lie Series’ by Erica S.
