Expected Schoolwide Learning Results Castro Valley High School will prepare its students to be: Knowledgeable individuals who • demonstrate mastery of their courses of study; • integrate reading, writing, and mathematics across the subject areas; • practice organizational and study skills; • demonstrate basic technological literacy skills. Critical thinkers and problem-solvers who • access, evaluate, analyze, and synthesize information from a variety of sources; • determine reliability of online sources and appropriately incorporate them into academic work; • make decisions and solve problems by practical application of academic knowledge. Effective communicators who • read and comprehend a variety of materials; • listen and interpret messages in a discerning manner and respond appropriately; • practice self-advocacy; • speak and write in a respectful, logical, and coherent manner; • recognize, develop, and appreciate artistic and linguistic communication. Respectful, responsible individuals who • understand diverse cultures, lifestyles, and viewpoints; • respect themselves, others, and their environment; • practice and value honesty and self-control; • handle conflict constructively through positive, non-violent actions; • adhere to established standards of behavior • take responsibility for and accept the consequences of their behavior; • demonstrate appropriate and responsible use of technology. Involved community participants who • understand and demonstrate the responsibilities of democratic and global citizenship; • strive to improve the quality of life in the communities to which they belong; • work responsibly to establish and accomplish goals within a team; • interact comfortably within culturally and organizationally diverse settings.
