    17. 24th Dec 2006 Copy Rights with www.atrilab.com contact director@atrilab.com 17 Sea-ports- including container and non-containerised bulk material handling: The sea-port practically becomes invisible as there wont be any need to have vast areas close to shore lines for material handling nor jetties into sea linking land to ship. Actually ships are made to anchor at optimum locations away from land, in sea where required draft is available with least dredging, and the Sky-wheel systems, will have capacity to bridge the unloading and loading operations at ship to modal transfer points like railway yard located outside cities faraway – and the savings in terms of avoiding the area development at shore lines, avoiding the expensive jetties, dredging costs, and more than everything the productivity levels for material handling which is at 5 to 6 times more than the current best available systems, will again redefine the ports as we know and make them more efficient at lower capital costs, which translates to beating the competition in the world.

    18. 24th Dec 2006 Copy Rights with www.atrilab.com contact director@atrilab.com 18 Out-puts expected For every cycle, one can have 4 TEUs per SWT unit, and with 8 of them, 32 TEUs can be lifted from ship in 3 min. Lateral shifting, exit to LTM, then to HSS- needs to cover about 50 m at average 2m/sec, taking 25 sec, say 1 min. HSS transmits at 120 kmph, say, 20 km in 10 min. Critical time for clearance is operation of SWT and LTZ, about 30 TEUs per 3 min we can design, yielding 500 to 600 TEUs per hour. So a ship with 10,000 (TEUs) containers can be off-loaded within 20 hours, and a 5000 container ship within 10 hours.

    19. 24th Dec 2006 Copy Rights with www.atrilab.com contact director@atrilab.com 19 Costing Steel structures at 100m tall supports/cable stayed bridging as needed, with 40m below sea level, 60m x 10 m units 20 nos at 20 x 60=1200 cr including the electricals. The Lifting cum traverser unit at Rs 50 cr The HSS link to land at Rs 50 cr per km for 20 km, Rs 1000 cr including rolling stock. Add another 10 km at Land Transfer yard lines Rs 500 cr for Sky-wheels The total for a system to handle 500 containers per hour is Rs 2750 cr or adding 15% contingencies, we estimate between Rs 3000 cr to Rs 3500 cr. Assuming a 20 hr per day working on average, annually 3.6 million TEU will be handled. It is modular in construction, the SWPort ( Sky Wheels Port) can be designed for different capacities from 200 to 1000 containers per hour, and at approximately Rs 3600 cr/ 3.6 mTEU per annum capacity, or say Capital of Rs 1000 cr per annual million TEU capacity.

    20. 24th Dec 2006 Copy Rights with www.atrilab.com contact director@atrilab.com 20 Cost per TEU to recover 20% of Capital per annum Capital: Rs 1000 cr Out put 1m TEU Maint expenditure at 10%: Rs 100 cr To get Rs 200 cr+ Rs 100 cr/annum Charge Rs 300 cr/1m TEU= Rs 3000, compared to US$ 120 per TEU this is competitive and recovers capital in 5 years too, which does not happen today!

    21. 24th Dec 2006 Copy Rights with www.atrilab.com contact director@atrilab.com 21 The Sky-wheels based sea ports will re-define the cargo business in the world!
