MOFPI in Brief • Act as a catalyst to attract quality investment into food processing and to make food processing a National initiative • Createfavourable food processing environment • Explore the Potential • Being one of the largest producer of food in the world, India’s Food Processing potential not realized so far • Food processing can be made as engine of growth of Agriculture • Catalyze reduction of high wastage of food

Major schemes of Ministry • Scheme for Infrastructure Development (Mega Food Parks, Cold Chain and Abattoirs). • Centrally Sponsored Scheme – National Mission on Food Processing (NMFP). • Scheme for Quality Assurance, Codex Standards, R&D and Promotional Activities. • Scheme for Strengthening of Institutions.

  4. Special fund of Rs. 2000 crores set up in NABARD to provide affordable credit to Agro-processing units. Excise duty on machinery reduced from 10% to 6%. 100 DAYS OF GOVERNMENT Initiatives in Food Processing – Union Budget

  5. “Investors Portal” set up to facilitate handling of investors’ queries. Queries received - 600 Out of which, Domestic Investors – 575 International Investors- 25 All queries have been responded. 100 DAYS OF GOVERNMENT Invest India

  6. 100 DAYS OF GOVERNMENT Mega Food Park • Final approval accorded to five Mega Food Parks in Khagria (Bihar), Satara (Maharashtra), Una (Himachal Pradesh) and Raipur, Bemtara (Chhattisgarh). • Two Mega Food Parks have become operational (Chittoor & Haridwar). Four more parks will be completed this year at Tumkur (KAR), Fazilka (PB), Jangipur (WB), Khargon (MP). • Expression of Interest invited for setting up of more Mega Food Parks and 72 eligible proposals received.

  7. 100 DAYS OF GOVERNMENT Infrastructure development of Cold Chain Adding Cold Chain/Cold Storage capacity : Cold storage requirement : 61.13 million MT Existing Capacity : 32.00 million MT Shortage/Gap : 29.00 million MT To add Cold Chain capacity with a view to development Cold Chain Infrastructure in the country: (a) Nine Cold Chain Projects became operational (b) Six Cold Chain Projects 75% completed (c) Twenty Cold Chain Projects being sanctioned (d) 29700 MT Cold storage& 50000 liters/ day Milk storage capacity added in the last 3-4 months by the ministry

  8. 100 DAYS OF GOVERNMENT Abattoir & Food Testing Lab • One Modern Municipal abattoir project has become operational (Shimla). • Three Food Testing Labs have become operational (Haryana, Gujarat & Tamil Nadu) in last 100 days.

  9. 100 DAYS OF GOVERNMENT National Mission on Food Processing (NMFP) • E-monitoring of implementation of various schemes under NMFP launched. • Achieved 50% of Expenditure by 30th September - 1st time since launch of NMFP.

Skill Development initiative of the Ministry 100 DAYS OF GOVERNMENT Aim - Next 12 months, 10,000 persons to be trained. • Sectoral Skill Development Council have identified 7 sectors where skilled manpower is required. • National Occupational Standards (NOS) being developed for identified job roles. • NIFTEM is developing the course content for the above and IICPT is also developing customized courses for skill development.

  12. 100 DAYS OF GOVERNMENT Other initiatives • Developing Food maps of the country to identify areas of surplus raw material for processing. • Clusters being identified for setting up of FPIs. • Ministry has simplified application forms of all the schemes and requirement of documents reduced.

  13. 100 DAYS OF GOVERNMENT Other initiatives • Meetings held with Chambers/ Associations regarding problems of food processing industries. • Meeting of State Ministers of Food Processing Industries held on 11.09.2014 • Review Meeting of Mega Food park, Cold Chain and abattoir projects held recently.

  14. 100 DAYS OF GOVERNMENT Way forward…….. • Operationalize Rs. 2000 Crores food processing fund. • Sanction 17 new Mega Food Parks • Sanction 20 Cold Chain Projects • Explore new scheme for infrastructure and cluster development • Find solutions to issues related to FSSAI.
