  2. W W I: “To Vimy!” Vimy was so well fortified, that all previous attempts had failed. But in late autumn of 1916, Canada Commander of the 1st Division, Major General Arthur Curry, led the Canadian forces north where they were to relieve British troops on the Western slopes of Vimy.

  3. Tactics Mining was the key to the achieving victory at Vimy. The Germans, British and French all dug mines under Vimy that went as far as a kilometer long. Some were to travel while others were set with explosives to blow up enemy trenches.
