  1. Iconic Dresses from Movies When it comes to your favorite movies, what stays in the memory for years? The first is the storyline, more so if it has touched a chord in your heart. The second is the actors and actresses in their memorable outfits. These dresses are copied and copied and replicas are worn repeatedly as they never go out of fashion.

  2. Most critically, these dresses are almost instantly recognized as belonging to a specific movie. The designers too are long-remembered. The famous black dress that Audrey Hepburn wore in the historic 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s is still considered to be one of the best Givenchy creations. Here are some of the famous iconic dresses from movies that will be in trend long after the films have faded beyond recollection.

  3. Marylyn Monroe – Seven Year Itch, 1955It has been more than six decades since the movie was released in 1955 but the dress worn by Marylyn Monroe in the Seven Year Itch remains the most iconic dress ever from films. The white halter neck dress and the actress posing in it on a Manhattan subway grating created quite a sensation in those days. It might have disgusted her then-boyfriend Jose DiMaggio, the baseball slugger no end but that picture along with the dress remains in circulation even today being on top of the list for Halloween and costume parties.

  4. Audrey Hepburn – Breakfast at Tiffany’s, 1961As Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Audrey Hepburn achieved almost cult status. And most of this was possible because of the fashion sense that she displayed in the movie. The little black Givenchy creation she wore in the opening scene of the movie is still the most famous black dress of all time. The satin sheath gown with a cut-out décolleté and a string of pearls has inspired women down the ages. As part of the Audrey Hepburn collection from the movie, replicas are available for the dress, jewelry, sleep mask, long cigarette holder and elbow-length gloves. A guaranteed head-turner at any party!

  5. Grace Kelly – Rear Window, 1954Rear Window is a classic Alfred Hitchcock movie starring the ethereal beauty Grace Kelly (later to become the princess of Monaco) and the suave Jimmy Stewart. The actress looked absolutely stunning in the chic black-and-white dress with a beaded chiffon skirt. She plays the role of a sophisticated fashion consultant who helps in the investigation of a murder. The fitted black bodice with a deep V-cut at the front and back became a trademark Grace Kelly look. Hitchcock used Edith Head, his favorite costume designer to craft the dress with elegance in mind. There have been many other memorable dresses from films – Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge and Kate Winslet in Titanic. Which is your favorite?
