What are Tier 2 Interventions?
  • Specialized, more intensive interventions
  • for supporting students
  • who have been documented as unresponsive to Tier 1 practices.

What are Their Essential Features?
  • They are designed to directly support Tier 1 programming
  • The process is similar for all students, but students will have individualized goals
  • They are easily accessible (within a few days of referral)
  • They are continuously available
  • They are team and data driven
how are tier 2 interventions different from tier 1
How are Tier 2 Interventions Different from Tier 1?
  • Increased instruction/practice (expectations and related behaviors)
  • Increased monitoring
  • Increased positive reinforcement
  • Increased feedback
  • Increased pre-correction

What are the Prerequisites for Implementing Tier 2 Practices?
  • Your Tier 1 program is solidly in place
  • You have attained a score of 80% or better on the School-side Evaluation Tool (SET)
  • Your have obtained the commitments necessary to proceed
who is responsible for implementing tier two interventions
Who is Responsible for Implementing Tier Two Interventions?
  • The school’s Behavior Support Team, a sub-group of the SWPBS Leadership Team
    • Representative(s) from the SWPBS leadership team (often including the Coach)
    • A designated Tier 2 Coordinator
    • An administrator
    • Behavior specialists (social workers, school psychologists, counselors, special education staff)
    • Teacher(s)

  • Short-term for most students
  • Longer-term for others
