  6. Children can use the materialsin a variety of ways.

  7. Learning grows from the child’s direct actions on thematerials.

  9. Children have opportunities to explore with all their senses.

  10. Children have opportunities to manipulate, combine & transform chosen materials.

  11. Active Learning: Choice

  12. Children choose what to do.

  13. Learning happens when children follow their own interests.

  14. The opportunity to choose activities and materials is essential.

  16. Children communicate needs, feelings, discoveries, and ideas through: • Motions • Gestures • Facial expressions • Sounds • Words

  17. Adults value, attend to, & encourage the child’s communications & languagein a give & take manner.

  19. Adults establish & maintain trusting relationships with each child in their care
