NSCB Releases Revised/Rebased National Accounts Estimates The annual estimates for 1998-2010 were officially released during the Dissemination Forum on the Revised/Rebased National Accounts of the Philippines conducted at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria Hotel on 12 May 2011. The release of the quarterly estimates for 1998-2007 will be announced accordingly on our website. For inquiries, please contact, Mr. Raymundo J. Approved FDI plunges by 52.8 percent in Q1 2011 Total foreign direct investments (FDI) approved in the first quarter of 2011 by the four major investment promotion agencies (IPAs) amounted to PhP 22.0 billion, 52.8 percent lower than the FDI approved in Q1 2010. Despite the decrease in FDI, the combined approved investments of foreign and Filipino nationals reached 161.9 billion in the first quarter of 2011, up by 76.5 percent from last year’s PhP 91.8 billion. Filipino nationals more than made up for the decrease in FDI by committing PhP 139.9 billion in investments for Q1 2011, more than three times the PhP 45.1 billion committed a year ago.

NSCB RD XI Spearheads the Conduct of the 7th Mindanao Statistics Congress The NSCB Regional Division XI is spearheading the conduct of the 7th Mindanao Statistics Congress in coordination with the University of Mindanao (UM) and the Regional Development Council (RDC) XI-Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC) XI. The event which will be held on 18-19 August 2011 at the UM Auditorium will be conducted for the first time in Davao. The congress is being organized by the Philippine Statistical Association – Davao Region Chapter with the theme, Statistics: Tool for Sustainable Development in Mindanao. It will gather Mindanao’s finest statisticians, economists and other related professionals who are involved in statistics to share updates and new ideas that will promote the efficient use of statistics as a development tool.   33. Announcements 4. NSCB Opens Aklan Statistical Information Center The NSCB in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Aklan launched the latest satellite NSIC last 19 May 2011. This is the fifth provincial statistical information center established in Region 6, completing all the provincial NSICs in Western Visayas. There are now ten (10) NSICs in the country, one in Metro Manila, and nine in the regional centers. These NSICs operate as the public service arm of the NSCB and serves as a gateway to Philippine statistics of both local and international data users.

  34. Announcements 5. Call for entries to the 3rd NSM Media Awards The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) is calling for entries to the 3rd National Statistics Month (NSM) Media Awards. This award recognizes the important role of media practitioners specifically reporters from broadcast (TV and radio) and print and online news service from both the government and private media organizations, who have made significant contributions in promoting, popularizing, and using statistics in information dissemination and other relevant purposes.
