PROGRAM overview • Our school district has a need for students to have an opportunity to receive hands-on learning in trades BEFORE CTC (Vo-Tech) in 11th or 12th grade • Attendance & Drop-Out Rates • Traditional Course Failures • Behavioral Issues • We identified 13 at-risk students coming into 9th grade that would benefit from hands-on learning to increase their future employability & increase their chances of graduating high school

  3. 9th grade Curriculum integration • Project Based Learning (with Josiah Moon and Rob King) • Math (with Lauren Brooks) • Science (with Amy Shay) • English and Language Arts (with Tara Reed) • Social Studies (with Janine Snyder)

  4. Already accomplished… • Creation of CORE shirts – teams had to present to classmates, facilitators, and administrators their rationale for designs. • Construction of tool storage units • Assembling machinery needed in the CORE room • Weekly field trips for tours of businesses, meetings with industry leaders, and technical colleges • Currently constructing sheds – two-team competition

  7. Attendance • As of now, ONE learner has missed ONE school day (excused for family trip). The others all have perfect attendance. • Attendance at PVIS by this day last year: TEN absences.
