  14. Transcultural Clinical Consultation Service (TCCS) • A specialist consultation service ensuring culturally appropriate mental health services to CALD consumers through advice and information, triage & assessment, review of care plans, psycho-education and short term interventions

  15. Staffing & clinical governance • 1 FT Clinical Services Coordinator • 4 FT Clinical Specialists • 1 PT Consultant Psychiatrist • 150 sessional Bilingual Mental Health Consultants

Levels of services provided • L1: Advice and information on cultural issues (case discussion via clinical specialists) • L2: Assessment and review focussing on cultural issues (via BMHC, cultural assessments, cultural consultation) • L3: Shared care and short term intervention (via BMHC, reinforce treatment plan, psycho-education) • L4: Triage and Assessment of referrals by non MHS and facilitate access

  17. 150 sessional bilingual mental health consultants (over 80 languages) Allied Health Psych Registrars Consultant Psychiatrists Cultural Consultants short term clinical interventions (assessment, diagnosis, treatment, psycho-education, management strategies, s/care) Socio-cultural assessments, cultural consultation Bilingual Mental Health Consultants: who are they and what do they do?

It is appropriate to contact TCCS for… • For someone with a mental health concern (assessment, education) • For a family member/carer of someone with a mental illness (psycho-education) • For a service provider to discuss a case (consultation, case-discussion) • Seeking multicultural support and resources (extensive data base of community supports, multilingual info, library)

  19. The referral process • Intake: Triage and risk assessment: sometimes a person will be referred directly to an acute care team and TCCS will come in later. • 31678333/1800 188 189 or tccs@health.qld.gov.au • Referral, registration and consent (info in 17 languages) • Co-assessments

Multicultural Depression and chronic diseases self management program • 8 week group program (health promoters & bilingual allied health) • Languages: Vietnamese, Spanish, Arabic, Samoan, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Sudanese (Arabic) • Can join program as any stage • Currently exploring some 1to1 work prior to group

  21. How to access the program • Anyone can refer incl. GP or self • Prior to joining we undertake a comprehensive assessment – some have resulted in referrals elsewhere • Upon completion GP will receive letter that patient has completed the group program

  22. QTMHC as an ATAPS contractor • TCCS will deliver the service via a bilingual allied worker • TCCS will deliver the service via a allied health worker with cross cultural expertise and interpreter

  23. Eligibility Criteria • ICD 10 Diagnoses that are eligible to be seen by Transcultural Mental Health are: • Generalised Anxiety Disorders • Adjustment Disorders • Post Traumatic Stress Disorders • Depressive Disorders • Bereavement Disorders

  24. Eligible interventions • Psycho education • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy • Relaxation Strategies • Skills Training • Problem-Solving Skills Training • Anger Management • Social Skills • Interpersonal therapy (eg. Role transitions, social isolation)

  25. Information and resources • Multilingual resources • Library/cultural info • Website • resources development: eg Glossary for interpreters, Needs Assessment tool, GP shared care handbook
