  26. Integrated Ground System Readiness Schedule for NPP (October 2011 – April 2013)

  27. Integrated Ground System Readiness Schedule for NPP (October 2011 – April 2013)

  28. Integrated Ground System Readiness Summary Status for NPP • NDE/NCEP- ATMS and CrIS radiances in BUFR format being streamed to NCEP/NCO using FTP protocol (FTP-S to be used when NCO transitions to new computer system in September 2013) • NDE continues to conduct data streaming exercises/tests w/AWIPS and NWSTG as part of a Phase 2 testing event. ~14 orbits (24hrs) of priority 1 products transferred • Status of NDE documents to support external user tests: • NDE to NWSTG/AWIPS Test Plan: Updated to reflect Phase 2 Tests. NDE is in the process of seeking AWIPS and NWSTG signatures (for Test Plan acceptance) • NDE to NWSTG/AWIPS Phase 2 Procedure Document: In final stages of development • NDE/AWIPS/NWSTG Phase 2 Test Report: Being generated • NDE to CLASS Test Plan: Signed/Complete • NDE/CLASS Test 2 Procedure Document: Finalized/Ready for Test 2

  29. Integrated Ground System Readiness Summary Status for NPP (cont) • User Engagement • OSD continues to regularly meet with user groups to review short- and long-term data requirements • Initial and end-state data product lists and volumes determined and documented for all NWS NCEP centers, AWIPS, CLASS, STAR, SAB, & NIC; Initial EUMETSAT products determined. Lists updated continuously as new data becomes available • STAR personnel actively engaging ocean color community on characteristics and utility of VIIRS imagery and products • System Development • NDE contractor presented Build Content Review for User Services and Monitoring & Reporting on 12/13/2011; Government approved proceeding with SW development. • Funding for second production string identified and allocated in FY12

  30. Integrated Ground System Readiness Summary Status for NPP (cont) • Network Infrastructure • NDE/AWIPS - Network components (for testing) in-place and configured. Continue to support ongoing NDE External testing • NDE/NCEP – 10 Gbps connectivity established to NCEP Central Operations (NCO) in Gaithersburg, MD via NCEP Point of Presence (POP) at NSOF • NDE/CLASS - Test 1 completed successfully 3/20/2012 using FTPS connection (InitialFunctionality/Interface Test) • NWAVE connection between CLASS/NSOF and NCDC operational • EUMETSAT: • EUMETSAT is scheduled to upgrade TAT T-1 link (into POES SOCC) to a new 10Mbps circuit by April 2012. EUMETSAT will provide an installation schedule for the upgrade of the TAT T-1 link (into POES SOCC) to a new 10Mbps circuit after contract issued, probably in May 2012. • New circuit is then scheduled to be upgraded to 50Mbps in the second quarter of 2013. This link will then work in tandem with the IJPS DS-3 link and combine and back up most existing data flows and carry NPP data between EUMETSAT and NOAA (EARS T-1 circuit will remain). NOAA part of project on hold until end of 2012 • EUMETSAT planning up upgrading their servers at NOAA as part of network wide tech refresh. Schedule TBD

  31. Integrated Ground System Readiness Summary Status for NPP (cont) • CLASS • NPP xDRs from IDPS routinely flowing to CLASS • CLASS-STAR connectivity established at NSOF for timely delivery of NPP xDRs to STAR for cal/val purposes • System Integration • NDE production environment equipment on order and arriving at NSOF as of April 2012 • NDE contractor schedule for integration of production environment into ESPC extended to November/December 2012 time frame • Products will continue to be generated and distributed to users using NDE system test environment until production environment is ready • Product Development • FY12 funding shortfall of $1.2M poses risk to continuity of existing polar products • As of April 12, awaiting decision from JPSS on covering of shortfall

  32. Integrated Ground System Readiness Summary Status for NPP (cont) • Calibration / Validation • ATMS and CrIS Sensor Data Records appear to be of excellent quality (Provisional? Beta?) • VIIRS still degrading but rate of degradation appears to be slowing; data still within 50% margin as of early April 2012 • Most STAR SDR/EDR SOWs for assessing quality of IDPS algorithms have been approved for funding by JPSS; 3 SOWS out of 20 remain unfunded as of April 5, 2012 • STAR working closely with GRAVITE teams to streamline algorithm change processes • Operational Readiness • Transition to Operations Plan completed and approved by OSPO • Implementation of LAN upgrade behind schedule due to delay in procurement funding by JPSS; completion of LAN upgrade and testing anticipated by end of June/early July 2012 time frame • Funding for ESPC operations staffing did not materialize in FY12, resulting in possible delays of NDE transition to operations

  33. Upcoming Events • NDE-AWIPS/NWSTG Phase 2 Testing (Functionality Testing): Mar April 2012 (occurring now) • NDE Operational Readiness Review (ORR) – Apr 2012 May/June TBD • NDE-EUMETSAT Testing (Functionality/Performance): April/May 2012 (Occurring now)
