Extended writing - limestone Evaluate the decision to expand a limestone quarry on the local community, considering both economic and environmental factors and explain why limestone is important. 5 marks available Quarries are really great at bringing money into a local area through jobs and increased business in local shops. They are really bad for the environment though and cause pollution. I think it is a good idea.

  2. Look for these points in the answer… • Give an economic issue: more jobs, more business • Give an environmental issue: visual pollution, noise pollution, air pollution from dust, increased traffic through the town IGNORE references to “pollution” • Say whether they support the quarry or not • Give a reason to support the answer above • Say why limestone is important; used in a number of building materials (must be named, like concrete, cement, glass, mortar) • Now rewrite my answer and make it better.
