General Lab Safety Precautions Know lab procedures before you start. Perform ONLY assigned activities Tie back long hair NO horseplay Never point testtubes at a face Never smell chemicals directly … WAFT! NOTIFY NOTIFY NOTIFY
Handling Chemicals Read and double check labels Avoid contact with skin liquids = wash for 15 minutes solids = brush off and notify in eye = wash 15 minutes, do NOT remove contact When mixing an acid and water, always add the acid to the water
Heating Substances Turn gas off to turn off a burner After use, burners and hot plates should be unplugged Never look into a container that is being heated Never point testtubes at a face Never heat a closed container unless explicitly directed to do so
If Someone's Hurt Cuts = wash immediately for 15 mins. Chemicals on skin: liquid = solid = Chemicals in the eye: wash 15 mins, do NOT remove contact liquid = wash immediately for 15 mins. Brush off and notify.
