  4. Some facts • Type: Mammal • Height: 8m • Weight: 113 kg (males); 100 kg (females). • Lifespan 20-30 years in captivity • Protection status: Endangered • Scientific name: Ailuropodamelanoleuca ("cat-foot black-and-white")

  5. Some facts It is a highly specialized animal, with unique adaptations

  6. Some facts The giant panda is a black-and-white bear.

  7. Some facts There are about 1,600 pandas live in the wild. Nearly 300 pandas live in zoos.

  8. Diet A wild giant panda’s diet is almost exclusively (99 %) bamboo.

  9. Reproduction The female may successfully raise only 5 to 8 cubs!

  10. Reproduction Panda cub: weight 100-200g measure 15 cm long

  11. Threats Pandas are under the threat of extinction because of their hide and meat.

  12. Threats Before, Giant Pandas were exported as State gifts, but now they are “loaned” as “conservation Pandas”.

  13. Protection Wanglang Nature Reservation protects the Giant Panda by: • Protecting the forests as a key habitat area • Educating visitors about panda protection • Supporting panda research • Educating local residents about the value of conserving pandas
