  2. Functions may be described as even, odd, or neither even or odd. Evenfunctions have graphs symmetric with the y-axis. Oddfunctions have graphs symmetricwith the origin. To test algebraically whether a function is even or odd: Substitute -x for x in the function. The function is even if f(-x) = f(x). ( function is unchanged) The function is odd if f(-x) = -f(x). ( all signs change)
