The site can serve consumers -- Business to Consumer (B2C) or serve other businesses -- Business to Business (B2).

Wikipedia is a not for profit informational site that shares human knowledge. Informational - Interest Group: This type of site is not a business or commercial site related site, it could be a site devoted to a hobby, a pop band, or a local interest group.

These sites use data mining techniques to sell you things and analyse your likes and dislikes. Social - Publish Information Sites like Twitter and YouTube allow people to “publish” their ideas, talents, experiences and opinions to a wide audience. These sites make money through advertising.

A blog is a user-generated website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order. Blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject Search Engine: usually refers to a Web search engine, which searches for information on the Web. (Google, AskJeeves, etc) Portal: a site on the Web that provides personalized capabilities to its visitors, providing a pathway to other content. (Sympatico.ca, tdsb.on.ca, etc) Web Host: a company that provides individuals and organizations a way to make their websites accessible via the World Wide Web. E-zine: An Internet publication (newsletter, magazine, etc.) distributed via the web or e-mail. Data Mining: Using computers to analyze masses of information to discover trends and patterns. For example, data mining software can help retail companies find customers with common interests.
