Radical/ reformers • Key members: Thomas Cranmer, Thomas Cromwell, Anne Boleyn, Catherine Parr, Anne of Cleves, John Fox, William Tyndale, John Rogers, Miles Coverdale (Wolsey and Henry) • Significant events: Henry as supreme head of the church 1532 and1534, divorce 1533 dissolution of the monasteries 1536, 1539,, rise and fall of protestant people, Anne Boleyn dying 1536, bible being developed in English in 1537 and finally published in 1539.

  2. Conservatives • Key members: Thomas more, Catherine of Aragon, Charles V, Francis I, Jane Seymour, Catherine Howard, Thomas Wolsey. • Key events: Thomas more: Lord chancellor from 1529-32, refused to sign a letter to the pop in aid of gaining a divorce for Henry, executed in 1535 Catherine of Aragon: was queen of England from 1509 till 1533, 1533 divorced Henry after failing to gain him a male heir.

Conservatives • Thomas wolsey: was papal legate and the Lord chancellor until 1529, fell from power in 1529 after failure to gain a divorce. • Jane Seymour: queen from 1533 till 1537 • Catherine Howard: Queen from 1540 till 1542, beheaded due to having multiple affairs. • Act of six articles, 1539

The White Rose Party Key members: Cardinal Reginald pole, Henry VIII, Francis, Charles, Thomas Cromwell, Geoffrey and Lord Montague, Countess of Salisbury, Henry Courtenay and Sir Edward Neville Key event: The purge 1538-39, Cardinal Reginald Pole, sympathiser to the White rose party began communications with France and Spain to invade and overthrow Henry during the peace of nice. Henry retaliated and Purged Pole’s family. They were arrested and executed. The purges properly ended when the countess of Salisbury was finally executed in1541. This finally silenced the thoughts of a pro papal resurgences.

Aragonese Key Members: Catherine Of Aragon, Charles V, Ferdinand II, Archbishop Of Canterbury (Warham), Pope Julius II, Clement vII Key Events: Henry marries Catherine Of Aragon in 1509, English and Spain alliance 1512, Alliance is broken with Spain in 1528 and one is made with the French to attack Spain, Henry divorces Catherine in 1533, Catherine dies in 1536

  6. Conclusion • Bad times for the radicals were good times for the conservatives and bad times for the conservatives were good times for the radicals. • The White rose party were over by 1541 as the only member, Reginald Pole was just drifting around on the continent. • The Aragonese faction was over by 1536 as Catherine of Aragon had died in 1536, which gave the Spanish little influence other than with the threat of invasion.
