  1. SPS9 Students will investigate the properties of waves.

  2. Warm-up: in your notebook How do we see color? p. 217

  3. How do 3 D glasses work? HD glasses? Block blue light for extreme clarity research says they are hype.

  4. Light as waves, photons, and rays!!

  5. Copy: Virtual Image – your brain perceives an image even though no light rays pass through it. Your brain always perceives light rays as though they have traveled in a straight line.

  6. Copy: Real Image is formed when light rays converge to form the image.

  7. Virtual Images: Your brain thinks that the light Rays that reflect off of the mirror come from a point behind the mirror.

  8. Draw: Concave Mirror Real image C = optical axis F = focal point Magnified inside the focal pt.

  9. Draw: Convex mirrors diverge light rays. Objects look closer than they truly are. Virtual Image

  10. Convex Lens is thicker in the middle than at the edges. Depending on the position of the lens and the object, the object may appear real or upside down.

  11. Concave lens The image is always virtual, upright, and Smaller.

  13. Summary: • Light rays bounce off of mirrors and • pass through lenses. • Virtual and real images depend on the • behavior of these light rays. • Today, you should be able to • draw a concave and convex mirror • draw a convex and concave lens • explain the difference between a virtual and a real image.
