  1. What is Generic Medicine? A generic medicine is a pharmaceutical medicine that contains chemicals similar to a drug that is originally protected by chemical patents. Generic medicines are allowed for sale after the patent on the original medicine expires. For the treatment of any disease, a chemical (salt) is prepared after all kinds of research and study; Later, the drug was named. Each company sells this salt under different names. Some sell it at a higher price and some at a lower price. According to the World Health Organization, health costs in developed countries and developing countries can be reduced by 70% if doctors prescribe generic medicine. The use of generic medicine accounts for only 10-12% of the total drug market. The greedy attitude of pharmaceutical companies, generic medical stores and doctors does not want to expand the market for generic medicine. In today’s world almost all types of generic medicine are available at lower prices than branded medicine . These cheap generic medicines can be a boon for the poor. What is Generic Medicine? Generic medicine adheres to international standards so they are no less effective than branded medicine. Doses of generic medicine, their side effects are the same as all branded medicine. Generic medicine contains the same ingredients as branded medicine. These medicines meet the 'essential drug criteria' set by the World Health Organization. Permission and licenses must be obtained from the concerned authorities before generic medicine comes on the market, as

  2. they are required for branded medicine. Generic medicine has to go through all the quality testing processes like branded medicine. For the treatment of any disease, a chemical (salt) is prepared after all kinds of research and study; Later, the drug was named. Each company sells this salt under different names. Some sell it at a higher price and some at a lower price. The generic name of this salt has been decided by a special committee considering the composition of the salt. The name of the generic medicine will be the only one in the whole world, like the pill of "paracetamol" which is used in a fever; Each company gives different names, but if it is common, each country must name it 'paracetamol'. Generic medicine may vary in size, shape, and color compared to branded medicine, as they may not copy exact details due to the branded drug trademark, although similar in API. So they can vary slightly on the color agents, fillers, diluents or preservatives used. There is a perception that branded medicine is more effective than generic medicine because the conditions and exact composition of the initial tests have been tested to be consistent with the branded drug, however, on paper generic medicine is similar to branded medicine . For countries like India and China, about 70% of sales are of generic medicine , while in the US it is the opposite. Why Generic Drugs Are Affordable- While the prices of branded medicine are determined by the companies themselves, the prices of generic medicine cannot be determined arbitrarily because the government interferes in the prices of these medicines. There is a 5 to 10 times price difference between generic and branded medicine. Why Generic drugs are so cheap: Generic medicines are so cheap that the companies that make them do not need to build separate laboratories for research and development. 2. There is huge competition among generic drug manufacturers which leads to lower prices. 3. Generic drug manufacturers do not waste money on advertising so their production costs are reduced. 4. In generic medicalstores , the generic drug is manufactured and distributed without any patents. A generic drug can be patented, but its components cannot be patented which is another reason for the low cost. When you buy medicine without a prescription to treat minor ailments, you can usually be sure that generic or self-branded medicine will be cheaper than their branded counterparts. As long as both medicines have the same potency (always check the packaging), the generic or self- branded drug will eventually have the same effect as the branded drug and save you money.
